'Not A Finished Product': Ex-India Star's Bold Take On Hardik's Captaincy

Cricket commentator and former India player Aakash Chopra feels that Hardik Pandya as a captain is not a "finished product". Hardik made a return to the five-time champions in a trade deal between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. While many expected Hardik to play under Rohit's captaincy, MI's decision to hand the captaincy to the 30-year-old all-rounder earlier this week caught many by surprise. While hosting JioCinema's daily sports show '#AAKASHVANI', Aakash gave his take on Pandya's appointment and said, "It's my understanding and not some inside news. When Hardik (Pandya) decided to move from Gujarat, captaincy may have been a part of the deal. This decision would have been definitely communicated to Rohit Sharma as well." "Rohit would have also been briefed about Mumbai Indians' future plans. I feel Ashish Nehra had a tremendous role in making Hardik the captain he was at Guj...

"Doesn't Deserve It": Ponting's Harsh Take On WC Winner's Test Prospects

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting feels that Glenn Maxwell does not deserve a return to Test cricket, saying that the dashing all-rounder must prove himself first in First Class matches. Maxwell, currently Australia's star player in limited-over cricket after his stellar show in the recent ODI World Cup, is bidding to return to the longest format. The 35-year-old has played only seven Tests to date after making his debut in 2013. He was not considered for the ongoing three-match Test series against Pakistan at home. Ponting feels that one should not be promoted to the red-ball squad unless the player has enough First-Class runs under his belt. “No one deserves a chance unless you've got a truckload of first-class runs behind you," Ponting was quoted as saying by 'Channel 7'. “I'm a no; he doesn't deserve it. But, if he gets a chance to go back and make some first-class runs, then he can force his way back in.” Maxwell's last outing in Test cricket...

"Shaheen's Real Problem Is...": Shastri's Blunt Verdict On Pakistan Pacer

Legendary Indian cricket team all-rounder Ravi Shastri believes that Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi is under tremendous pressure and that is affecting his performance. During Day 2 of the first Test match against Australia, Shastri remarked on commentary that Shaheen has the pressure of spearheading the Pakistan pace attack and pointed it out as the 'real problem' for the cricketer. Shaheen could manage to take just one wicket after conceding 96 runs. "I think Shaheen Afridi's real problem is the pressure of being the spearhead of this Pakistan attack. Without much real support at the other end, when it comes to pace. When you talk of Pakistan and their fast-bowling attack, there is genuine pace all the time. And you don't have one bowler here who is even close to 140. So that puts immense pressure even on someone like Shaheen," he said on commentary. Australian spin king Nathan Lyon moved to within three wickets of joining the elite 500 club Friday a...
