Sediqullah Atal Century Helps Afghanistan Crush Zimbabwe In Second ODI

Sediqullah Atal scored his maiden one-day international century as Afghanistan crushed Zimbabwe by 232 runs in Harare on Thursday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Atal (104) and Abdul Malik (84) put on 191 runs for the first wicket and an unbeaten 29 from captain Hashmatullah Shahidi lifted the tourists to 286-6 off 50 overs. Zimbabwe, who won the toss, were in trouble from the outset when replying with Ben Curran run out off the final ball of the first over. Only Sikandar Raza (19 not out) and Sean Williams (16) reached double figures and the home team were bundled out for 54 in 17.5 overs at Harare Sports Club. Afghan bowlers Allah Ghazanfar (3-9), Naveed Zadran (3-13) and Fazalhaq Farooqi (2-15) wreaked havoc. "I am very happy with my performance and that of the team. We won a fantastic game of cricket," said player-of-the-match Atal. "Abdul and I coped well. We supported each other and that is why we did well and the team did well. I did beco...

Uncertainty, Injury, Family's Advice: Behind Ashwin's Retirement Decision

Ravichandran Ashwin 's decision to retire midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 has caught many people by surprise. The 38-year-old called time on an illustrious career on Wednesday, having picked up 537 games in 106 Tests. Now, reports have revealed that Ashwin's decision has been to do with two factors - injury problems and his future in India's Test team. Reportedly, Ashwin was contemplating his retirement prior to the first Test in Perth, but had not finalised his decision yet. Ashwin had informed his family of the retirement decision just the night before. According to a report by The Indian Express , Ashwin's persistent knee problem had forced him to contemplate retirement ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Along with that, Ashwin has also likely taken his decision keeping in mind his future with Team India in Test cricket. Ashwin has played only one out of the three Tests so far in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, seeing himself out of favour for both ...

"Standing At Slip Was Never Dull": Rahane's Farewell Note For Ashwin

India batter Ajinkya Rahane on Wednesday penned an emotional farewell note for Ravichandran Ashwin , who announced his retirement from international cricket. Ashwin surprised many when he joined India captain Rohit Sharma to officially announce his decision. Fans had sensed something was amiss when cameras captured a heartfelt moment between Ashwin and Virat Kohli on the final day of the Test. Watch: Akash Deep Apologises Following Bizarre Exchange With Travis Head

Akash Deep apologised to Travis Head following a bizarre exchange on Day 5 of the third Test match between India and Australia in Brisbane on Wednesday. Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah looked quite confident at the start of the day's play and the former looked to play some aggressive shots against Nathan Lyon . While going for a slog sweep, Akash Deep missed the ball completely and it got stuck inside his pads. He quickly took it away and threw it on the ground. The Indian cricketer did not notice that Travis Head thought he will hand him the ball and that led to a chat with the Australian batter. However, the situation did not turn ugly as Akash Deep apologised and the game moved on. Travis Head ultimately ended up dismissing Akash Deep and ending the Indian innings. Play on day five of the third Test between India and Australia was halted due to lightening around the Gabba after the visitors were bowled out for 260. Don't think Travis Head loved that #AUSvIND pic.twitt...

Saim Ayub, Salman Agha Steer Pakistan To Victory In First ODI vs South Africa

Saim Ayub hit a superb 109 and Salman Agha starred with bat and ball as Pakistan beat South Africa by three wickets in the first one-day international at Boland Park on Tuesday. The left-handed Ayub and Salman (82 not out) shared a fifth wicket partnership of 141, rescuing Pakistan from 60 for four. Salman, who earlier had career-best bowling figures of four for 32 as South Africa were restricted to 239 for nine, was named man of the match – but he handed the trophy to Ayub. "Without Ayub we would not have won the game," said Salman. "He was there with the new ball and he set up the game." There were still moments of anxiety for the tourists after Kagiso Rabada had Ayub caught at fine leg with 38 runs still needed. Two more wickets fell before Salman hit the winning boundary with three balls to spare. Heinrich Klaasen made 86 off 97 balls in South Africa's total of 239 for nine but was forced to play more conservatively than usual after the innings stalled...

"If I Get Opportunity...": Star On Potential RCB Captaincy. It's Not Kohli

Rajat Patidar 's international career did not take off as he would have liked, but the Madhya Pradesh batter is confident of "re-creating" the opportunity through domestic matches and don the India jersey again. Patidar's six innings against England earlier this year produced just 63 runs, but the right-hander has shown impressive touch in the first half of the Ranji Trophy and the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. "I enjoyed going to the Test team. But sometimes I feel bad that I missed the opportunity. But it's alright sometimes things don't go your way," Patidar said during an interaction here on Saturday. Patidar has accepted his "failure" and has moved away from that disappointing space. "I think acceptance is the key. You have to accept that there will be failure in the cricketing journey. So, it's important for me to face it and learn from it. "I have just accepted it and I am moving forward. It's a part and parce...

"Bumrah Has Done Most Things Right But...": Shastri Gives Brutal Verdict

Ravi Shastri was left concerned by the inconsistency of India's bowling attack on Day 2 of the third Test match against Australia in Brisbane on Sunday. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah who took five wickets, all India bowlers struggled on a day when Travis Head and Steve Smith ran riot. Australia were 405 for the loss of seven wickets and the former Indian cricket team head coach were left concerned with how badly some of the India bowlers performed. Shastri pointed out that consistency is extremely important for the Indian bowlers when it comes to playing in Australia and added that only Bumrah has "done things right". "They were giving away runs on both sides," he said in an interview with SEN Radio. "Bumrah has done most things right, but I think when you look at the others you think, 'Can they execute?'" Twin century-makers Travis Head and Steve Smith put on a magnificent fourth-wicket partnership as Australia reached a commanding 405-7 at stum...

3rd Test Day 3 Live: Rain At The Gabba Likely To Delay Start Of Match

Alex Carey and Pat Cummins will resume the Australian innings at 405 for 7. On Day 2, Travis Head scored a sensational 152 to put Australia in a commanding position. Steve Smith gave him superb support, notching up a resilient century himself, to take Australia from 75/3 to 326/4. For India, the only shining light was pace talisman Bumrah, who picked up five of the seven wickets. He first got openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney in the opening session, and later struck with the second new ball to get Smith, Head and Mitchell Marsh . India Women Win First T20I To Extend Unbeaten Run Against West Indies

India Women extended their unbeaten run against the West Indies to nine consecutive T20I victories with a dominating 49-run win in the series opener on Sunday. After Jemimah Rodrigues (73) and Smriti Mandhana (54) powered India to their highest-ever total of 195 for four against the Caribbean side and their third highest overall in the format, the West Indies responded with 146 for seven. At the top, young Qiana Joseph dazzled with a 33-ball 49, while veteran Deandra Dottin (52) recorded her first fifty since making a comeback to T20Is earlier this year, but their efforts were not enough. West Indies' hopes were dealt a body blow in the second over when substitute fielder Minnu Mani produced a superb athletic catch to see the back of West Indies' skipper Hayley Matthews (1) off Titas Sadhu (3/37). Joseph cracked five fours and three sixes to keep the scoreboard ticking but West Indies could not produce big partnerships in the middle. Joseph and Shemaine Campbelle (13) put on...

"Do Mongrels Simply Purr?": Gavaskar On Australia Crowd Booing Siraj

Former India cricketer and cricket pundit Sunil Gavaskar has lashed out at Australia's cricketers and the public for portraying Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj in poor light following his fiery send-off to Australian batter Travis Head during the second Test at Adelaide. Amid widespread criticism from Australian fans towards Siraj, Gavaskar has called out the apparent hypocrisy, stating that the same fans would cheer had it been an Australian who gave the send-off. Gavaskar also expressed his surprise at the incident. Gavaskar went as far as saying that should the Australian team choose to be "mongrels", they would be backed by their fans. "Siraj is getting the stick from all the "saints" in Australian cricket who, of course, were known for their impeccable behaviour on the field. It may have incensed Australian fans that Siraj's fiery send-off was directed at Head, who scored a magnificent century, and was also the local boy," Gavaskar wrote in h...

New Zealand vs England Live Score Updates 3rd Test Day 1

NZ vs ENG 3rd Test Day 1 Live Score : New Zealand eye a consolation win as they take on England in the third and final Test at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. A whitewash would be quite a humbling for New Zealand after their 3-0 win on Indian soil last month. The Kiwis, however, haven't lost a Test at Seddon Park since South Africa beat them by nine wickets in 2012. The pitch was largely under covers and the weather could play a big part through the Test, with showers forecast on day three. Both teams are already out of the WTC 2025 final race. Upset With Pakistan Board, Coach Jason Gillespie Resigns. Here's Why

Jason Gillespie stepped down from his role as Pakistan's Test team coach and former pacer Aaqib Javed has replaced the Australian for the upcoming two-match series against South Africa, PCB announced on Thursday. Pakistan will play two Tests against the Proteas from December 26, and they are already in the Rainbow Nation for the white-ball leg of the tour. Aaqib is currently the interim coach of Pakistan white ball outfits. Gillespie, whose contract was set to expire in 2026, resigned after the Pakistan Cricket Board didn't review the contract of Tim Nielsen, who was brought in on the recommendation of the former Aussie quick, as the high performance coach of the team. Sab ja rahe hain #jasongillespie Khuda Hafiz pic.twitter.com/RF74tbho8K — iffi Raza (@Rizzvi73) December 12, 2024 Gillespie was also peeved at the PCB's decision to absolve him of the powers of team selection and involvement in pitch preparation. It may be recalled that Gary Kirsten, who joined as the...

Amid Massive Pressure On Rohit, Kohli Takes Big 'Initiative' For Team India

He used to be the cynosure of all eyes at training sessions during his captaincy days and Virat Kohli was once again the centre of attention as he addressed his teammates here on Thursday. After the demoralising 10-wicket defeat in the Adelaide day/night game, the visitors needed a bit of inspiration going into the crucial third Test of the series, and the youngsters in the side couldn't have got a better mentor than 'King' Kohli himself to guide them with his words of wisdom. The team huddles before the start of the training session has been a constant feature for years now and Kohli used to do a lot of talking during his days in charge. He did take a back seat once he left captaincy but with skipper Rohit also under immense pressure after four straight defeats, the senior-most player (in terms of Test debut) had to take the initiative ahead of the match starting here on Saturday. With vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah by his side, Kohli was seen speaking animatedly to the gro...

"Head Started Spinning, I Collapsed": Kambli Breaks Silence On Health Issues

Over the past few weeks, a lot has been said and written about former India cricketer Vinod Kambli 's health struggles. Recently, Kambli attended a function honouring the late Ramakant Achrekar, who coached him and Sachin Tendulkar at the Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Several videos went viral on social media where Kambli even struggled to properly conduct himself. However, Kambli has now opened up on his health struggles. The 52-year-old is doing 'better' but suffered a health scare about a month back. Kambli revealed that he is battling a urine infection, but his wife and kids stood with him like a rock and helped him get back on his feet. He added that former India all-rounder Ajay Jadeja came to see him. "I am better now. My wife takes care of me a lot. She took me to 3 different hospitals and told me 'You have to get fit'. Ajay Jadeja also came to visit me. It felt nice. I was suffering from a urine problem. It was just flowing. My son, Jesus Cristiano, picke...

More Changes In Pakistan Coaching Staff? Report Makes Explosive Revelation

Pakistan's Test head coach Jason Gillespie is reportedly reconsidering his options after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided not to renew the contract of assistant coach Tim Nielsen for the upcoming Test series in South Africa. Nielsen, who was appointed as 'high-performance red-ball coach' in August, had been awaiting a contract renewal following Pakistan's tour of Australia. Despite expressing commitment to the South Africa and West Indies series, Nielsen was informed his services were no longer required, ESPNcricinfo reported. Gillespie was not consulted about the decision to let Nielsen go, which has caused significant frustration. His dissatisfaction is compounded by the PCB's earlier removal of him from the selection panel in October, reducing his role to a "matchday strategist". He has also expressed disappointment over Nielsen's rapport with players not being considered in the decision. The PCB has increasingly leaned towards appointing ...

Rohit Left Fuming By India Star's 'Indiscipline', Takes Big 'Team Bus' Step

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma was left fuming after opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was late for their departure from Adelaide, according to Sports Tak . While the team was ready to leave for Brisbane ahead of the third Test match, Jaiswal failed to arrive in the team hotel lobby on time and as a result, the bus left without him. The team, including captain Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir , waited for him in the team bus but decided to leave after some time. The young India batter came to the lobby around 20 minutes late and had to take a separate hotel car to the airport. The Indian cricket team was supposed to take the 10 AM flight to Brisbane and the team was ready to depart from the hotel at 8:30 AM. There were two buses for the team and the support staff but Jaiswal was not there on time. According to the report, Rohit was visibly frustrated because of the delay. Around 20 minutes later, Yashasvi came to the hotel lobby to discover that the bus had already...

First Time In 51 Years: Smriti Mandhana Scripts Never-Before-Seen Record

Smriti Mandhana scored her fourth ODI century of 2024 during India's defeat to Australia at the WACA. This remarkable achievement set a new all-time record for the most centuries scored in a calendar year in women's ODIs, according to Wisden. Mandhana's innings came as India chased 299, a target set by Australia thanks to Annabel Sutherland's 110 off 99 balls, with Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath also contributing half-centuries. Despite losing her opening partner, Richa Ghosh, early--bowled by Megan Schutt--Mandhana stood out in an otherwise disappointing performance by the Indian batting lineup. Following Harleen Deol's dismissal for 39 by Alana King, Mandhana held the innings together as wickets fell rapidly around her. Harmanpreet Kaur managed only 12 runs off 22 balls before being dismissed, while Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 16. The lower order crumbled, with Deepti Sharma, Minnu Mani, and Saima Thakor all falling for single-digit scores. Mandhana reach...

Rohit Gets 'Captaincy' Reality Check From Aus Great: "Bumrah's Superior..."

Former Australia batter Simon Katich  criticised India captain Rohit Sharma for his bowling changes during the 10-wicket loss in the Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide. The loss last week was India's fourth-straight in Test under Rohit's captaincy, having conceded three games at home to New Zealand last month. In a recent interaction, Katich feels Rohit failed to rotate his bowlers, something his deputy Jasprit Bumrah managed to do pretty well during India's 295-run win over Australia in the series-opener in Perth. "When you compare the two results, obviously, in Perth, Rohit Sharma missed out. And I thought Bumrah's captaincy, and particularly, the use of his bowlers in the length that they bowled, was far superior to what we saw in Adelaide. In Perth late on Day 1 when Australia were 7/67, India attacked the stumps and bowled much fuller and straighter lengths," Katich said during an interaction with ' Around the Wicket ' podcast. Katich also urged Rohit...

"Rohit Should...": Gavaskar Wants Big Change In Batting Unit For 3rd Test

India's defeat in the pink-ball Test against Australia hasn't sent shockwaves across the cricketing spectrum, but certain changes have been prescribed to Rohit Sharma and his team. India made three changes in the playing XI for the day-night Test, with Shubman Gill , Ravichandran Ashwin and the skipper coming in. Rohit, however, batted at the No. 6 spot, allowing KL Rahul to continue at the top after his prolific show in the Perth Test. However, Indian cricket great Sunil Gavaskar has urged Rohit to change that in the third Test. Gavaskar, reflecting on India's defeat in the Adelaide Test, has urged Rohit to return to his opening spot, alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal , in Brisbane, sending Rahul to bat at the No. 5 or No. 6 spot. "He should return to his regular spot. We should remember why Rahul had opened. He did that because Rohit Sharma was not available for the first Test," said Gavaskar on Sports Tak . "Now I can understand why they kept him as an ope...

"Champions Trophy Shouldn't Happen": Pakistan Great Drops Bombshell

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Rashid Latif made a mammoth statement regarding the Champions Trophy 2025, saying that the tournament should not happen anymore. During a recent event, Latif said that Pakistan should say no to the competition before BCCI takes any further step. He went on to say that such a step by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will send a big message to the cricketing community. The tournament was supposed to take place in Pakistan but the situation has become complicated after India refused to travel for their matches citing security concerns. While the ICC has suggested a 'hybrid' solution that will see India play their matches in Dubai, nothing concrete has been announced yet. "Champions Trophy shouldn't happen anymore. You should say no before they refuse,” Latif said. "We have always been made scapegoats, be it Afghan war or cricket. PCB, ACB, and ICC are the same as they can't fight against the BCCI. They have the chance to pu...

WTC Final Qualification: With 10 Games To Go, All Scenarios Explained

With 10 Tests remaining in the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, several teams remain in contention for a place in the top two, although no team is guaranteed a spot just yet, as per ESPNcricinfo. South Africa, leading the table with a percentage of 63.33, have two home matches against Pakistan remaining. Their recent 2-0 series sweep against Sri Lanka has put them in a strong position. To secure a spot in the final, they need to win just one of their upcoming Tests against Pakistan. A 1-1 series result would leave them at 61.11 percent, with only India or Australia in a position to overtake them. If both Tests are drawn, South Africa would finish at 58.33 per cent. In such a scenario, India would need to beat Australia 3-2, and Australia would need to win both Tests in Sri Lanka to surpass South Africa. If South Africa lose the series 1-0, they would then rely on Australia winning no more than two of their remaining five Tests, or India securing no more than one win and o...

Shami Produces Sensational All-Round Show Amid Major Injury Reports - Watch

Showing no signs of rust, Mohammed Shami carried Bengal to the quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by smashing a game-changing 17-ball-32 and bowling 13 dot balls in his four overs that paved way for his team's thrilling three-run win against Chandigarh on Monday. With no clarity over his international comeback, the 34-year-old played his eighth SMAT T20 game in 16 days and has bowled his full quota in almost all the games. On the day, he first used long handle to a good effect, taking 19 runs off seasoned Sandeep Sharma 's final over as Bengal reached 159 for 9 after tottering at 114 for 8. He crunched two sixes and three fours, mostly flashing through point region but the final wicket stand of 21 off 10 balls with Sayan Ghosh proved crucial. Bengal have set a target of 160 in front of Chandigarh Mohd. Shami provides a crucial late surge with 32*(17) Karan Lal top-scored with 33 (25) Jagjit Singh Sandhu was the pick of the Chandigarh bowlers with 4/21 #SMA...

Shastri Delivers Blunt Verdict On Rohit's Captaincy: "Too Subdued..."

Former Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri believes that skipper Rohit Sharma was quite 'subdued' during the loss against Australia in the pink-ball Test against Australia in Adelaide. India were completely outplayed by the hosts as they slumped to a 10-wicket loss - a result that majorly dented their World Test Championship (WTC) Final hopes. Shastri said that he wants Rohit to be more animated and involved in the upcoming matches and believes that they can bounce back in the five-match series. "That's the reason I want him at the top. That's where he can be aggressive and expressive. Just thought he was a little too subdued, just seeing his body language. The fact that he didn't make runs, I don't think there was enough on the field there. I just wanted to see him more involved, and a little more animated. You still have to believe that you can bounce back in this series. You have seen with these two teams, that the counter-punch is almost imme...

Gavaskar Blasts Siraj Over Travis Head Send-Off. "Got Stick From Crowd..."

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has described as "unnecessary" the fiery send-off Mohammed Siraj gave to Australian batter Travis Head after the pacer dismissed him for 140 on Day 2 of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval. Gavaskar, speaking on Star Sports, expressed his disapproval of Siraj's actions, emphasising the context of Head's innings. The legendary batter highlighted that Head had played a magnificent knock, becoming a local hero with his eighth Test century and second against India, and Siraj's over-the-top celebration was unwarranted. “Unnecessary, if you ask me. The man's got 140, he hasn't got out for one or two. You don't give a send-off to someone who's batted brilliantly and won the crowd over. Instead of becoming a hero for dismissing him, Siraj has become the villain,” said Gavaskar. He suggested that Siraj's actions cost him an opportunity to win the respect of the local crowd. “If Siraj had simply applauded Head after...

The flagging home side will need to chase an enormous score in the fourth innings after England went to stumps at 378 for 5 in Wellington on day two. Captain Ben Stokes resisted any urge to declare, instead cementing England's position of power as four batters posted half-centuries to build on their first-innings advantage of 155. Joe Root was at the crease on 73 while Stokes struck a whirlwind 35 not out against a tiring attack, after Jacob Bethell and Ben Duckett were both dismissed in the 90s. "That's A Good Night": Aus Great's Send-Off To Rohit From Commentary Box

Rohit Sharma 's return to the Indian team didn't go as planned, with the India captain only scoring three runs before being dismissed by Australia's Scott Boland . Rohit returned to the middle order after years of top-notch performances as an opener, primarily because of KL Rahul 's superlative show at the top in Perth. However, not much went right for the India skipper who was dismissed LBW by Boland after spending only minutes on the pitch. Rohit's dismissal also prompted a send-off from Australia great Adam Gilchrist who couldn't resist pointing out the Indian captain's flaws while commentating. Boland came into the Indian team after an injury ruled out Josh Hazlewood from the day-night clash. While there's no denying that Hazlewood is one of the pillars of Australia's pace attack, Gilchrist called Boland an apt replacement. "Hazlewood was Australia's best bowler in Perth but having Boland playing here as his replacement is not bad. B...

Zimbabwe Pip Pakistan In T20I Thriller For Consolation Win

Zimbabwe grabbed a consolation two-wicket victory over Pakistan in a thrilling final T20I on Thursday, with tailender Richard Ngarava getting them over the line with one ball to spare. Pakistan, seeking a series sweep after winning the first two matches by 57 runs and 10 wickets respectively, rested several key players and made 132-7 off 20 overs in Bulawayo. Zimbabwe responded strongly initially with opener Brian Bennett scoring 43, but the Pakistan bowlers hit back and the loss of home captain Sikandar Raza (19) spelt trouble. Needing 12 runs from the last over for victory, Tinotenda Maposa struck a four, a six and a single to level the scores with three balls remaining. Tashinga Musekiwa was caught by Tayyab Tahir off the bowling of Jahandad Khan to increase the tension at the Queens Sports Club. Ngarava then became the hero, striking the penultimate ball back towards Khan. It hit the stumps at the non-striker's end and deflected to mid-off for the winning run as Zimba...

CSK's Rs 30 Lakh Buy Dismisses Hardik, Krunal In 'Record' Hat-trick. Watch

Karnataka spinner Shreyas Gopal levelled with compatriot Amit Mishra to register the most hat-tricks by an Indian bowler in T20 cricket. Gopal reached this accomplishment during his side's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Baroda on Tuesday. During the game, while defending a total of 170 runs set on the back of a fine half-century from Abhinav Manohar (56 in 34 balls, with six sixes), Karnataka seemed to be in trouble with Baroda at 102/1 in 10 overs. Gopal, who was recently bought by CSK for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL auction, turned the game on its head by removing Shashwat Rawat for 63 in 37 balls, with seven fours and two sixes. It was followed by him getting scalps of Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal for golden ducks, which earned him a hat-trick and his team a chance to win the game. Gopal's figures of 4/19 ultimately went in vain as wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Solanki remained unbeaten on 28 to guide his team to a four-wicket win with seven balls left. Gopal now has ...
